Product Information
Alcolock 500

The Alcolock 500 has been developed to assist with the prevention of drink driving by combining the technology from two of the worlds leading companies in their own fields - Alcohol Breathalyser technology from Lion Laboratories and Automotive Electronics from PFK Electronics.

The breathalyser is UK Home Office approved and is the standard issue item to Police Officers throughout the world using the latest and most technically advanced fuel cell technology.

The breathalyser is wirelessly linked to the immobiliser, which is industry proven having been supplied to numerous vehicle manufacturers throughout the world as an OE product and comes with the relevant European approvals.

For Fleet Operators – the system can be pre-set at all levels to accommodate zero alcohol company policy up to legal limits. Each time a sample is taken it records the date, time and level of alcohol by breath.
The system stores up to 4000 samples, which can be downloaded directly onto a PC at any time. It also has the capability via a GSM module to send the same information back to your operations department or mobile telephone, enabling you to have immediate and up to date information.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Can the Alcolock store data?
The Alcolock will store the last 4000 recordings in both the breathalyser handset and the immobiliser. The recordings in the breathalyser can be read from the handset or downloaded to a computer. The recordings stored in the immobiliser are there as a back up and can only be downloaded by an Alcolock GB technician.

The recordings give details of date, time and alcohol level.

Using this information it is possible to track an employees alcohol level and determine if he or she requires any help and support.

How is the system powered?
The immobiliser is powered from the vehicle. The Hard-wired breathalyser is permanently powered from the vehicle electrical system, whereas the Wireless option is powered from a re-chargable battery. The battery is charged from a 12v supply (Cigarette lighter) and once charged should last for 6 months without a re-charge.

Are there temperature limitations for the Alcolock to operate in?
The Alcolock 500 has been developed to meet European standards and the temperature range for it to work in is -40c to +70c

Will the Alcolock fail if certain medicines are being used?
If medicines are used as prescribed they should not effect the system. If the medicines do result in a fail then the likelihood is that the driver is not in a suitable state to drive anyway.

Under extreme and concentrated conditions items containing small amounts of alcohol such as mouth wash will result in a fail, but on a second attempt the driver will get a pass.

Can one breathalyser communicate with more than one immobiliser?
The system can be set up so that one breathalyser can communicate with up to 8 immobilisers or vice versa, so it is possible to have 8 breathalysers all communicating with one immobiliser.

Can the alcohol level be adjusted?
The alcohol level can be set from almost zero up to the Drink Drive limit. This is set by Alcolock GB in accordance with our clients requirements. It is recommended that you read the Alcohol in Your Body section to understand the implications of where the level should be set.

Do I have to blow into the Alcolock every time I start the vehicle?
The normal factory default setting is 30 minutes, so if you turn your vehicle off and turn in on again after 29minutes it will start but if you try it after 31minutes the driver will need to give another breath sample. The interval time is set by Alcolock GB at installtion and can be anywhere between 3 minutes and 3 hours depending on your own requirement.

I have multiple drivers driving a single vehicle during each shift. Do I have to provide each with a Alcolock handset?
No, during installation a driver change over button will be installed in the vehicle dash board. At the end of a drivers shift or driving duties he or she will press this button. This re-sets the system so the next driver has to blow into the breathalyser to start the vehicle and the change over is logged on the data recorder.

Will my drivers require any training?
The Alcolock is easy to use and drivers require approx 15 minutes of training. This is usually undertaken by the Alcolock installation technician after installation.

If you have a fleet of vehicles with a large number of drivers then we are happy to attend an open training day for all of your drivers to attend around their other work commitments.

Does the system need calibrating or servicing?
The breathalyser part of the Alcolock needs to be re calibrated every six months.

This is normally part of a warranty service we offer and either an engineer will visit you to re-calibrate the system, or if appropriate to yourself the handset will be collected and returned within 48hrs.

There is a 12 monthly service required and again this is part of the warranty and an engineer will visit you for this.
